Shalom/Welcome
A
new day, a new J. It is my hope and goal that this will be
the message and focus of my new term as Chair of the JCC’s Board of
Governors. I want to build upon the strong leadership of my predecessor,
Nancy Lonky, and the enthusiasm and buzz that has continued to grow
about our desire to build a new JCC.
At the same time, I believe it important to celebrate what the JCC has
accomplished within its present facility. As a leader in early childhood
education, day camping, and special needs programming, the JCC
profoundly impacts hundreds of families each year. Our relationships
with our local synagogues, public schools and service organizations
speak to our interest in building community. This year alone we are
developing an Underage Drinking forum in cooperation with Westchester
County and the local synagogues, we will co-sponsor the first JCC
Maccabi Games hosted in Westchester, and the
first
“Real Abilities” New York Disabilities Film Festival.
Building on our past and present successes, I hope you will be part of
the excitement, lending your vision and expertise to make our dream of a
new JCC come true. I believe together we can create the kind of
full-service JCC that we need and deserve.

Welcome to our 2008-09 Program Guide.
There is a lot about the JCC that is new this year, a year in which we
will simultaneously celebrate our Bar/Bat Mitzvah year in Tarrytown and
our 80th anniversary of service to the community.
I’m
sure you have noticed our new logo on the cover. We have been working
with graphic designers to create an entirely new look for the JCC. The
logo is the first step in this process. A marketing committee comprised
of community and JCC members worked hard to refine the logo, which was
among many provided by the designers. This logo was chosen because we
believe it reflects the strength and spirit of the J; the Jewish values
that permeate all of our programs, the vision for a growing Jewish
community, and the new JCC we hope to build.
As
we enhance our profile through community forums, sponsoring our first
delegation to participate in the Westchester JCC Maccabi games,
publishing a new bi-monthly newsletter which will premier in the fall,
expanding our offerings for all ages, and developing an overall
contemporary look, we hope you share the same enthusiasm we feel about
our community center.
I
look forward to your involvement and welcome your comments as you
experience all that the J has to offer.
